Getting started
Install the plugin, create your first gift card product and test a purchase in a few minutes.
1. Install
- Make sure WooCommerce is installed and active.
- In Plugins > Add New, search for BrainlessITC Gift Cards, install and activate it.
- After activation you can choose to share anonymous usage data — this is optional; the plugin works the same either way.
2. Create a gift card product
Click Create a gift card product in the notice, or go to Products > Add New and choose Gift card as the product type.
- In the Gift card tab, enter the amounts customers can choose from, separated by commas:
25, 50, 100. - Add a product image — it is used as the card image in the preview and in the email.
- Gift cards are virtual (no shipping) and new gift card products get the tax status None, because in most countries tax is due when the card is spent, not when it is sold.
- Publish the product.
Tip Use the Default gift card image setting for a store-wide card image when the product has none.
3. Test a purchase
- Open the product, pick an amount, enter a recipient email and a message and add it to the cart.
- Check out. When the order reaches Processing (or Completed, see Settings), the gift card is created and emailed.
- Find the new card in Gift Cards in the admin menu, and the code in the order details.
- Add another product to the cart and enter the code in the Have a gift card? field (classic) or Add a gift card (Cart and Checkout blocks).
Offline payments Orders paid by bank transfer or cheque stay On hold until you mark them as paid. The gift card is issued at that moment.
4. Let customers check their balance
Add the Gift Card Balance block to any page, or the shortcode [bitcgc_balance]. Customers enter their code and see the remaining balance.
